Seven questions. 25 seconds. Free. No sign-up.
How to play Longshots
Open longshots.app and press Kick off. The daily football quiz does not ask you to register. Joe Gilmore said the same thing on the day it launched: no sign-up, no app, phone and desktop both work. New questions arrive at midnight UK time.
A round, step by step
- Read the question. It asks for a set of correct football answers, not one secret name.
- Type anything that is actually correct. The box says “Your answer…” and the button says Shoot.
- A correct answer becomes a shot. The distance depends on how rarely other people said it today.
- A wrong answer is logged. The reactions include Saved, Wide, Over the bar, Blocked, Into Row Z, Off the post and Off the bar.
- If the 25 seconds run out, the line is “Slide tackle! Out of time.” That question scores 0.
- At full time the team sheet lists valid answers by band and the share of today’s players who said each one. The 100-yard answer stays hidden until the next day.
What the input does
| What you do | What you see |
|---|---|
| Correct and rare | A longer shot, sometimes “Nobody else has said that today” |
| Correct and obvious | A 6-yard tap-in. Messi for a Ballon d’Or winner was the author’s own example |
| Wrong | A miss reaction. It is saved on the round. It is not a second chance |
| Timeout | Slide tackle. The question scores 0 |
| Network trouble on submit | “Signal lost. Check your connection and shoot again.” |
One North Stand Chat thread reports conflicting experiences with Evan Ferguson on a Premier League hat-trick question: one player was asked for a first name, another still received Blocked after adding it, and a reply contains an internally inconsistent account of the name order. These are player reports from one source; no reliable input-format rule follows.
Is there an app?
No Android package and no iOS package. The public manifest is a browser game with a standalone display mode and icons. On a phone, use the browser’s Add to Home Screen. On a desktop, leave the tab open or install the page from the browser menu. The daily set still lives at longshots.app.
Is it free?
The terms, updated 6 November 2026, call the game free and for fun. Balls.ie says the same. I have not seen a paywall, a store price, or a code box.
Streaks
A streak counts days played. The public game files include a streak saver with the line “One missed day a week is on us.” I treat that as one covered miss each week, not as a bank of tokens.
Kickabout
The homepage button reads “Kickabout with mates · Coming soon.” The privacy page describes names and kits inside a room, and says rooms are deleted after they go quiet. The mode was not playable on 6 November 2026. Whether a room will need an account is not stated, so I leave that blank.
Playing without an install
Because it is a normal web page, you do not install a store app to play today’s seven questions. I do not claim it will load on a filtered school or office network. If the page fails, use the load fixes.
Accounts stay optional for the daily quiz. The privacy page says an account is what lets you play the archive and appear on the Golden Boot. Sign-in is Google or an emailed code. The terms say accounts are for people 13 and older. Anyone can play the daily set without one.
How many questions are in Longshots?
Seven questions a day, with 25 seconds on each one.
Do I need the Longshots app?
There is no store app. Play in the browser at longshots.app and add the page to your home screen if you want an icon.
